Uyuni Salt Flats – Full Day Mountain Biking Tour

Join us in Uyuni, Bolivia for an off-the-beaten-track, once-in-a-lifetime biking experience. While pretty much everyone will board a 4x4 jeep and nothing else, we will take you to the same, must-visit spots such as the Train Cemetery, Colchani and the Salar. However, you will have the opportunity to fuel your own adventure guided by our local expert and ride on this massive expanse of salt, truly breathing in fresh air and enjoying the sound of silence while staying fit/healthy. In addition, if you are ready to take a break, our support vehicle will not be far away.

Itinerary

Death Road Mountain Biking Tour Bolivia

From the city of Uyuni, we will pick you up from your accommodation, bus station or airport to start the tour.

We climb aboard our comfortable vehicle which in turn, will be loaded with our bikes.

Head toward the train cemetery just out of town - a picturesque spot to tap on those cameras.

Next, drive to the town of Colchani, some 35 Km. away where a colorful market offers unique, inexpensive souvenirs as well as photo props (think Godzillas).

Time to enter the world’s largest Salt Flats, Salar de Uyuni. Once there, we will make our first stop to appreciate the ‘ojos de sal’ which are mind-boggling, natural brine pools.

Then, stop by Playa Blanca: a former salt hotel turned into a visitor center with a colorful flag stand. Continue our drive for a few more kilometers until we reach the middle of nowhere. Take your time to enjoy the endless horizon and the fun, deep-perspective photos.

From here, after a quick briefing we ride our bikes for as long as you are physically and mentally able to do so. It is such an awe-inspiring place and you are experiencing it first hand, powered by yourself. It is easy to lose your way, that’s why you will be guided by our local bike expert at the front, and our support vehicle not so far in the back. Believe us, there is enough room for everyone!

Our main destination is Isla Incahuasi, the picturesque cactus island. You may ride until you reach the island - the distance is feasible for moderately fit/experienced riders - but you don’t have to. Just enjoy the ride for as long/far as you wish and when you’re ready, climb aboard our vehicle for the rest of the way.

We will enjoy a unique lunch (included) at a suitable time.

Once at Incahuasi Island, you will be able to hike to the top for inspiring views of the land you have just ridden on your bike. After you climb down, sit back and relax while our driver does the rest. Before exiting the salt flats, enjoy a surreal sunset and drive back to the city of Uyuni where our tour ends.
